Private Day Schools Vs Boarding Schools in Canada

Topics : Boarding Schools in Canada | High School Credit Courses | Private High Schools
Private Day Schools Vs Boarding Schools Needless to say, school is a place for learning. Whether the child is exposed to day schooling, boarding schools or homeschooling, a good school always contributes towards the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of the child. The child not only grows intellectually but also learns to tackle problems, becomes creative and more socially active. In this blog, we will look at the major differences between private day schools and boarding schools and whether one is better than the other. To best way to begin with is to understand the unique features of both the schools. In day schools, the students are more actively seeking education and have a strong bond with their parents. This is because the parents are consciously involved in the growth of the child and celebrate with the child all of his or her achievements. Parents become an integral part of their child's academic journey. They assist the child in completing homework and projects. In day schooling students can leverage all the opportunities of the local community and also enjoy their time along with family and friends. Financially speaking, day schools charge half the tuition fees as compared to boarding schools. Overall, day schooling results in lesser sudden changes in a child’s life allowing him or her to live life with his family. While in boarding schools the scenario largely differs. The child is deeply exposed to the values of the schools and is more close to his or her classmates and teachers than the immediate family. The child acquires maturity of handling relationships and become independent faster than ever. Unlike day schools, teacher is the greatest motivator for children studying in boarding schools. Boarding schools prepare the child for greater challenges and better academic experiences. Boarding schools although charge high, the fees is still considered low as the money spent on the child’s normal expenses is saved. In addition, the transportation costs and activities costs are all incurred by the school which is part of the fee structure. Boarding schooling offers several opportunities to interact with people from different backgrounds. Boarding schools are preferable if the parents are constantly moving due to work or other reasons. This way the studies are not affected and the child is able to maintain a good routine. Both, day schools and boarding schools have their own set of advantages and challenges. Each option must be carefully considered before making a choice. For more information on private schools in Canada, visit Gradbound.   Have you studied in a day school or a boarding school? If you find that the audience is confused by listening to your opinion, explain it further to make them understand. Learn new words - Watch movies, listen to English songs, focus on the subtitles and try to grasp the new words. Once you come across a new word, find its meaning using a dictionary and try to use it in a sentence. Try to use the word often so that you remember it well. Also, find out words that have similar meaning to your new word and its context of usage. That way you can make different sentences that mean the same but are used in different situations. Take care of the grammatical errors while speaking. Ensure you use the proper tense, pronouns according to the context. Pathway Program | Basics Are you planning to apply for higher studies in one of the most prestigious universities & Colleges in Canada? However, are you not sure about scoring well in your English proficiency tests? Worrying about losing your chance of studying abroad due to improper English language skills? Then, read ahead. In order to make sure that the student is able to take admission in a foreign university, despite not having command over the English language, there are specific programs designed known as the pathway program or bridge programs. Pathway programs allow students willing to study abroad take English as their second language course in addition to courses that will add to their credits. These programs are of one-year duration and accepted by several universities or colleges. Students who are able to complete these courses and have a good GPA can then apply to affiliated colleges for their higher studies. In other words, pathway programs are sort of preparatory programs that prepare the students with their language skills and necessary qualifications and knowledge related to their degree. Please note, these courses are just an added support and the completion of these courses does not mean completion of the degree. Students from countries like South Pacific Island, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, or Taiwan are generally advised to complete such Pathway programs. Importance of Pathway Programs For applying in foreign universities one of the criteria is to get good scores in language proficiency tests like IELTS and TOEFL. If one is not able to score well then it is not possible for him or her to get admission in the desired college or university. Here, pathway programs open a window of opportunity for students to study English language while studying in foreign university or college. Here are some of the advantages of choosing a pathway program. Allows the student to improve his or her English language skills while pursuing the academic program Provides ample time to the student to try out new courses. Since, the pathway programs are one year long, students get enough time to try out new courses and choose their major. Students get enough time to adjust to the culture and study patterns of the university. Students are encouraged to participate in discussions and get used to interactive learning process. While undertaking a Pathway program, students also get access to the college library and other services. Some of the colleges that provide pathway programs also offer conditional admission in the school after completion of the program. This provides a convenient means of getting admission with a certain GPA. Students must be careful while selecting a pathway program. While choosing a pathway program one must research the admission policy of the institution. Since, not all colleges offer guaranteed admissions after the completion of pathway programs. Majority of College and University will grant a student a conditional Letter of Acceptance; condition being that a student must complete the language portion of the studies at the partner language school with acceptable marks. Canada remains one of the top study capitals of the world

December, 16th 2020
Topics : Immigration to Canada | International Students | Pathway Program | Study in Canada
Canada remains one of the top study capitals of the world for international students, beating Singapore, the UK and the USA. For these students, it is a ‘safe and welcoming’ destination. This is according to the latest survey from Navitas Insights.   Canada’s rise in the preference by foreign students is due to, in part, its handling of the coronavirus as well as its responsive immigration policies.   While Canada, like the rest of the world, has closed its borders since March 2020 to non-essential international travel, it has provided for and protected international students within its borders. These students were able to access the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and many were allowed to work in 10 sectors considered essential. The government is also finding quicker and easier pathways for them to become permanent residents.   Foreign students outside of Canada also benefit from the customary immigration policies such as obtaining their Postgraduate Work Permit (PGWP) while not being able to attend physical classes. These students are allowed to do 50% of their studies online in their home country and then complete the other half of the program in Canada, still being eligible for PGWP.   Additionally, international students are now allowed to enter Canada from anywhere in the world. They must, however, be attending a college or a university that is on the respective provincial government-approved COVID-19 readiness list. They are also expected to comply with federal and provincial protocols implemented to limit the spread of COVID-19 like preparing a quarantine plan and using the ARRIVECAN app.   Collectively, these factors have made Canada even more attractive to foreign students, especially for those who wish to study, work and live in a safe and welcoming environment according to the survey.   The survey was conducted in May 2020. Other top-ranking countries included New Zealand and Australia.     How to Obtain a Canadian Study Visa Any foreign student who wishes to study in Canada must identify a program at a college or university that is a designated learning institution (DLIs). Once the institution has been selected, it is then important to apply and get a letter of acceptance. After which, submit this letter along with identity documents, show financial stability, education credentials to the Canadian consulate in the home country to get a study permit.     Who We Are Located in the world-class city of Toronto, Gradbound Education & Immigration Solutions is a tailor-made company that provides support for those who wish to live the Canadian dream. International students can travel to Canada to study a program that is less than 6 months

December, 28th 2020
Topics : Immigration to Canada | International Students | Study in Canada
International students can now travel to Canada to study in a program that is less than six months in duration.  This announcement came from Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC).   For some time, it was unclear whether international students could come to Canada to study in a program that is less than 6 months. However, IRCC stated that it is allowed despite no clear 6 months-or-less option on the application form.   While foreign students coming on a language program have to apply for a study permit, this application process is a bit unique.   “[A]pplicants who wish to apply for a study permit for a short-term program can indicate during the eligibility questionnaire that they intend to stay in Canada for longer than six months. This will generate their document checklist for a study permit application.   “When they complete the application, the applicant should include their actual dates of study which reflect that [they] intend to study for less than six months,” IRCC added.     A little over 150,000 students enter Canada each year to either study English or French and about a third of them move on to continue their education either at a college or university. Language education is thus an economic force and contributes approximately 22 billion to the international education coffers annually.   Data from Languages Canada indicate that more of these students begin with a (less than) 6-months language program in either English or French, move on to further studies, get their postgraduate work permits (PGWP) and then become permanent residents.   This means that this is another and arguably more affordable pathway to permanent residency and citizenship in Canada.   However, there are a few restrictions at the federal level for these students. They are not allowed to work either part-time during their studies or get a PGWP. They can however get an employer-specific work permit.   Benefits to International Students   People who speak French now get 25 points, up from 15 when applying for their permanent residency.   People who are bilingual now get 50 points, up from 30. This means that English-speakers who come to Canada to study French for 6 months or less can get 50 points added to their Express Entry profile.   A language program of this nature might be a cheaper route for holders of a bachelor’s or master’s degree, costing roughly CA$5000. However, the average minimum cost to study in Canada for at least 8 months is CA$16,000.   While students who pursue a diploma, bachelor, postgraduate diploma or master’s degree get only 15 points, those who pursue French can get between 25-50 points on their Express Entry profile.     This shorter study option might prove to be more economical for some students who cannot afford CA$16,000 but might be able to cough up CA$5000.     Who We Are Located in the world-class city of Toronto, Gradbound Education & Immigration Solutions is a tailor-made company that provides support for those who wish to live the Canadian dream.
